Family Timelines
Sequence, history, chronology, are extremely abstract concepts for children. We have inadvertently created a lesson in a pictoral timeline. I have always had a wall of our kitchen full of collage frames picturing family. This helps the girls understand their history and where they fit into the larger picture. It begins at one end and has grown across the wall in (almost) chronological order. We have all our meals and spend a lot of time in the kitchen. I believe all children start out as visual learners and this wall is part of their learning from the beginning. I also value story telling to pass on family history and this wall of pictures prompts many.
once again you amaze me...your such a great mommy! i love the aprons hangin'...cat
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of the photo wall to connect your kids with their heritage. I just had to check out your blog when I saw The Pink House. My four year old daughter wants everything to be pink. And she wants to live in a pink house. The best I can do for right now was to buy her all pink pjs and pink bedding for Christmas. I'm hoping that will holder for a while. Maybe I should do a photo wall like yours, but with all pink frames!
ReplyDeleteI love, love, love my family photos! I've just unearthed my old albums and can't wait to go through them with my two daughters. It's really funny when they think every baby is one of the two of them!
